Double Dipping at Dunbrew's Oktobeerfest

DunBrew’s 22nd Annual Oktobeerfest Festy Poster

Back in May, I finally began to meet some folks in the St. Pete music scene and started playing some original music. Early May, I played my first hippie festival, Orange Blossom Jamboree. It was an epic time, midnight jams, killer sets by a bunch of bands in the scene I hadn’t got a chance to see yet, camping did not totally suck (thanks Ashley!), I played awesome sets with Goldenera and the Tony Tyler Trance, and there was free beer courtesy of Dunedin Brewery. Mmmmm… beer…

Me with Goldenera at OBJ, May 2022

OBJ was a big party with me playing in two bands and drinking a lot of beer. This Saturday, it’s gonna happen against at DunBrew’s 22nd Oktobeerfest! Dunbrew has an annual Oktoberfest celebration featuring special beers at a special price along with German foods and a lineup of awesome live music! And that awesome lineup of music has both of my bands, Goldenera and Displace closing things out Saturday night! Here’s the entire lineup for the fest.

I’ll be playing back to back with Goldenera and Displace this time around, 8:45 and 11pm start time, respectively. AFter a DTSP first friday show with Chris Walker, I got a long night ahead of me at the region’s best spot for live music on one of their biggest events of the year. Grateful!

If you haven’t seen Goldenera and/or Displace yet, come on out. I’m really proud of what I’ve been doing lately, and here’s a great chance to catch it all with some great beer and great friends. Bring your lederhosen! : )

Displace Drops New Single "Rabbit" Today

Right before Hurricane Ian comes through, let me get this blog off real quick…

The drought is over; new D Truth music has arrived! A talented, funk fusion band I’ve joined, Displace, has released the first single , “Rabbit” from the upcoming album, “Accidental”. And just like that, the D Truth The Professional blog lives!

Since I last posted, a lot has been going on! I’ve bought a house and Moved to St. Petersburg, FL from Tampa. I’ve got two wonderful cats. I got a new girlfriend (hey Ashley!). Last and of course not least, I’ve been getting really busy musically. Displace has really been cookin’.

A band that has been active in various iterations since 2011, Displace is a legit ridiculous funk fusion quartet based here in Tampa Bay. All of us are quirky, idiosyncratic music nerds; the music is some of the most introspective and music stimulating stuff I’ve ever played. I’ve been finding my way by shamelessly imitating my heroes; that being said, I’m finally getting close to playing some Snarky Puppy tunes! Much love to Chris, Evan, and Barbosa. :)

This is a huge moment; finally, music I’ve worked on with some of my brilliant Tampa Bay is finally out! Awesome moments have been made here in Tampa Bay, a trillion at OBJ; some of that magic is now finally on wax. Thanks God.

Rabbit is quite an apropos release for me. Anyone who knows me knows that I have been literally obsessed with music and the journey of structuring life such that I get to create more of it. Making a transition towards doing it full-time, attending jam sessions, meeting folks, locking myself in my room to practice. Committing to living both the engineering and music life at a high level. I’ve spent time chasing killing it at the next gig, the next opportunity with a high profile artist, playing on the next record that would make a splash. I’ve been exhausted.

Instead of judging myself a success based on all the activity I’m generating musically, I’ve simply declared myself a success. Period. I get to bring all of the joy into my music knowing that I have family that love me, friends that admire and support me, and a community of musicians that trade inspiration and support. Whatever else happens, happens.

Let’s shoot for world peace not because that justifies our life, but because why not?

That being said, listen to “Rabbit” below! Get more info on Displace at https://www.displacemusic.com/. Shout out to Goldenera, OBJ, Tony Tyler, and Seth and Caleb, and everybody I’ve been jammin’ with. More news to break!

New Music Alert

That is how I imagine y’all lookin’ at me as I state that I gotta push this date back. I initially announced a date for The Best Of D Truth Tuesdays of 4/27. That’s not gonna happen. We got a new date : 5/25/2021. And we’re going to hold to this one. All of these songs are ones I had in the tuck; I thought I had them all remixed and remastered ready to go. I didn’t. And now, I got to move back the date. But it’s coming! and we’ll lead up to it nicely. I appreciate your patience and y’all hanging with your boy.

Podcast

4 Nerds 1 Podcast has taken a break due to my getting the Rony. We’re planning on coming back as soon as I get healthy. I finally watched all of WandaVision. Woot. Falcon and The Winter Solider is next. got like 3 episodes of that. Demon Slayer movie came out. probably will watch that and some new anime for the upcoming anime pod. That’s what’s on the content horizon. Mortal Kombat was pretty ok too. I’d rather just see all of the fights. Everything else was superfluous.

COVID Chronicles

IMG_2780.JPG

As the title implies, I got COVID. I feel fine now, I am on the mend. Every day has gotten better.

Thursday night (4/8), we were wrapping up a podcast. I felt short dizzy spells coming on. Perhaps every ten minutes for about two to five seconds. Everyone left, I went to bed, and it was uncomfortable.. Could not find a comfortable sleeping position. Sweaty. Anguishing. Friday and Saturday were spent in bed. I had no energy, motivation; I was drained. I have since ran across this video:

COVID showed me that I did not have the commitment in the moment. However, I am developing that commitment, this blog is this the commitment, this is the moment in which I reaffirm my mission. I want to bring music to you all, I want to help bring others music to you, I want to do this for a living. And I am committed. Thank you, COVID; I’m getting committed.
